KAMPALA, Uganda — Police are investigating a domestic incident in Bunga, Makindye Division, in which a Kenyan woman allegedly stabbed her five children, leaving two dead and three others injured.

The incident occurred at about 4:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 20, 2026, in Kalungu Zone, Bunga, Ggaba Parish, according to police. Investigators are yet to establish the full circumstances surrounding the attack.

Police said a housemaid was alerted by cries for help from the main house and, upon checking, found several children with serious stab wounds.

One of the children, aged 14, was found dead at the residence, while another, aged seven, was rushed to Nsambya Hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries. Three other children, aged 13, eight and five, survived the attack and were taken to hospital for treatment.

Police identified the children's mother as a 43-year-old Kenyan national who was also found injured at the scene. She was taken to Mulago National Referral Hospital, where she remains under police guard as investigations continue.

A Toyota Hiace van parked at the residence was also set ablaze during the incident. Police and Fire Prevention and Rescue Services responded to the scene, extinguished the fire and recovered exhibits that investigators say could help establish what happened.

Homicide detectives, forensic personnel and Scene of Crime officers have since examined the residence and recorded statements from witnesses.

The case has been registered at Kabalagala Police Station, with investigations focusing on suspected murder, attempted murder and arson.

Police have not yet announced a definitive motive, and the allegations against the suspect remain subject to investigation.
